St. Paul's Baptism Services

We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. —Romans 6:4

In the Christian tradition, Baptism is one of the fundamental sacraments of faith. It symbolizes the incorporation of the individual into the corporate body of Christ. At St. Paul’s Church, we believe Baptism to be a Sacrament ordained by Christ Himself in the Gospel, and thus to be ministered with unfailing use of His words of institution and of the elements ordained by Him. We see Baptism as a solid, objective milestone in each Christian’s history of salvation, signifying our obedience to the commands of our Lord. We promise to obey Jesus Christ as Lord, and to raise our children in the Christian faith. At St. Paul’s church we hold our services of Baptism on Sunday morning, in the presence of the gathered Church family. This stresses that our fundamental commitment to God is public, not private, and we need the community of faith to live out our baptismal vows.

In order to prepare adequately for Baptism, we ask that adults and parents of children who wish for them to be baptized go through the Discovery Class. In addition there is a required rehearsal on Saturday morning immediately preceding the Baptism Sunday. This is for adults, older children, the parents of children to be baptized, and sponsors or godparents of candidates who will be present at the Baptism.  In most cases, the Alpha Course will be expected for Adults presenting themselves for baptism.
